About the event
Tantrums come in all shapes and sizes. They can involve explosions of anger and frustration, accompanied with screaming, stiffening limbs, an arched back, kicking, falling down, flailing about or running away. In some cases, children hold their breath, vomit, break things or hurt themselves or other people as part of a tantrum.
This is all normal behaviour! Tantrums are common in children aged 1-3 years.
Children are at an early stage of social, emotional and language development. They can’t always communicate their needs and feelings, including the desire to do things for themselves, so they might get frustrated.
Tantrums are one of the ways that young children express and manage feelings, and try to understand or change what’s going on around them.
This 1.5 hour workshop teaches caregivers on why tantrums occur, how to support your child through tantrums, and how to support your child in order to manage and avoid some tantrums.
Topics:
- Social Emotional Development in Toddlers
- Understanding Tantrums & Big Emotions in Young Children
- Understanding Common Triggers for Tantrums & How to Avoid Them
